The Savannah Palmetto can grow up to 25 meters (82 feet) tall, with a relatively thin trunk that can reach up to 30 cm (1 foot) in diameter. The trunk is usually smooth and gray, with the scars of old leaf bases creating a ringed appearance. The crown is composed of large, fan-shaped fronds that can span up to 2 meters (6.5 feet) across. The fronds are a glossy green, and the leaf stalks (petioles) are unarmed, lacking spines.
