Philodendron 'Burle Marx' is a popular and distinctive cultivar of the Philodendron genus, known for its unique foliage and compact growth habit. This cultivar is a tropical plant that originated from the hybridization of various Philodendron species, notably named after the Brazilian landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx.
Philodendron 'Burle Marx' features striking, deeply lobed leaves that have a dramatic, almost sculptural appearance. The leaves are typically a rich, dark green and have a glossy texture. They are heart-shaped at the base and become more elongated with lobes as they mature. The plant maintains a bushy, compact form, growing to about 60–90 cm (24–36 inches) in height and width, making it an excellent choice for indoor spaces or smaller garden areas.
Philodendron 'Burle Marx' prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate lower light conditions. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves and hinder growth.
This plant thrives in temperatures ranging from 18–27 °C (65–80 °F). It is best suited for USDA hardiness zones 10–11. Protect the plant from cold drafts and temperatures below 10 °C (50 °F).
Philodendron 'Burle Marx' prefers well-draining, rich potting soil. A mix that includes peat moss, perlite, and compost works well to provide the right balance of moisture retention and drainage.
Water the plant regularly, keeping the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so ensure proper drainage in the pot.
