Elegant and rare palm from the rainforests of Madagascar
Dypsis lanceolata, known as the Ivovowo Palm, is an elegant and rare palm native to Madagascar. It grows in tropical rainforests and is highly valued for its thin, smooth trunk and delicately arched feathery leaves with rich green coloration.
This Dypsis species forms a multi-stem cluster that over time develops a uniquely exotic appearance. The graceful fronds create a striking silhouette, making it an exceptional choice for plant collectors seeking something truly distinctive and rare. Perfect for indoor cultivation or tropical garden settings, the Ivovowo Palm brings exotic sophistication to any collection.
Contents: 5 fresh seeds. Pre-treatment: Soaking in lukewarm water for 48–72 hours; renew water daily to soften the seed coat and enhance germination potential.
Use light, aerated substrate – 50% cocopeat + 50% perlite or coarse sand. Sterile substrate will reduce the risk of mold and fungal issues.
Plant seed to a depth of about 1 cm and keep substrate moist, but not overwatered to prevent rot.
Ideal temperature: 26–30°C. Humidity: 70–85%. Cover container with transparent plastic or mini-greenhouse to maintain optimal microclimate.
Conduct germination in a bright place without direct sun. After germination, provide filtered light and adequate ventilation.
Misting is the best method for maintaining moisture. Excessive moisture can cause mold and seed rot, so take care not to overwater.
Expect first germination after 2–4 months; under stable tropical conditions it may be faster. Patience is key with this rare species.
When the first true leaf appears, transplant the seedling into a deeper pot with rich, well-draining substrate for continued development.
Use nutrient-rich, moderately moist substrate with good drainage. The ideal ratio is peat, sand, and organic matter in equal proportions for optimal growth.
Keep substrate moist, but avoid standing water. Lack of moisture will cause browning of leaf tips, so maintain consistent moisture levels.
Optimal temperature range: 20–30°C. Sensitive to cold below 15°C – suitable as an indoor or greenhouse palm in temperate zones.
Feed every 2 months with palm fertilizer with balanced nutrient ratio (10-10-10 + micronutrients). Limit feeding in winter months.
Rarely attacked by pests; in dry air, spider mites or mealybugs may appear. Treat with mild soap solution or neem oil if necessary.
Ideal for interiors, winter gardens, or tropical greenhouses. Over years, it can grow into a wider cluster of multiple stems for a fuller, more dramatic display.
