Latania verschaffeltii - Yellow Iatan palm

Features

The intense yellow of the plants is apparent from a very early age. As the tree
matures, however, it is lost and the stiff, fan-shaped leaves are green or slightly
blue-green, with the petioles and leaf bases covered with pale, woolly tomentum.
The slim trunk, which grows to about 35 feet (10 or 12m) in height, is clearly ringed
with the scars of fallen leaves. The plum-like fruits are borne on inflorescences that
arise among the leaves, containing two or three seeds, which like the others in the
genus, appear sculpted as though carved with a knife. This handsome palm comes
from Rodriguez Island where it is now extremely rare.
