Fronds arise from stout creeping rhizomes covered in dense pale to medium brown scales.
Substrate: Coarse epiphytic blend of 40 to 50 percent medium-to-large orchid bark (10 to 20 millimetre pieces), 20 percent long-fibre sphagnum moss, 20 percent coarse perlite or pumice, and 10 to 15 percent coconut husk chips or chopped tree fern fibre. The stout rhizomes and substantial root system of this species accommodate a slightly coarser mix than appropriate for smaller Davallia. Never use peat-based or soil-based potting composts. Slightly acidic to neutral, pH 5.5 to 6.8, reflecting the species' natural occurrence on bark and mossy acidic rocks in tropical rainforest. Prolonged irrigation with alkaline water (pH above 7.5) causes gradual foliar chlorosis; correct with rainwater or reverse-osmosis water if local supply is hard. Free drainage is essential. The coarse bark-based mix must discharge excess water within seconds of application and remain aerated around the rhizome surface between waterings. Slatted wooden orchid baskets, wire baskets lined with sphagnum, shallow perforated pans, and mounted slab culture all provide adequate drainage. Closed impervious vessels are unsuitable. Low to moderate. Fortnightly liquid feeding at half label strength with balanced fertiliser (20-20-20 or 15-15-15) from March through September provides adequate nutrition. Full-strength feeds risk root burn; the species is adapted to the nutrient-poor epiphytic niche. Cease feeding October through February. Moderate. Sphagnum moss and coconut fibre or tree fern fibre in the mix supply slow-release organic content. Annual topdressing with a thin layer of fresh sphagnum around the rhizome maintains organic fraction without compacting the mix. Mature plants on garden mounts benefit from occasional natural leaf-litter accumulation in crowns.
Water: Rainwater or soft tap
Light: Bright filtered light to moderate shade matching the species' natural mid-canopy epiphytic niche in Southeast Asian rainforest. In cultivation the plant performs well at photosynthetic photon flux densities of 120 to 350 micromoles per square metre per second, equivalent to an east-facing window with clear view indoors, 50 to 65 percent shade cloth in outdoor tropical gardens, or beneath high canopy in shaded garden positions. Direct midday sun in hot conditions scorches the foliage within hours; morning and late afternoon sun in cooler weather is tolerated. Low light below 80 micromoles produces thin etiolated growth with widely spaced rhizome internodes and reduced frond substance; intense dappled light under open canopy produces the strongest growth and best sporulation. The species can tolerate somewhat brighter conditions than D. trichomanoides or D. fejeensis thanks to its slightly thicker lamina, but does not reach the light tolerance of D. solida.

USDA Zones: USDA hardiness zones 10b to 12 for outdoor year-round culture, confining the species to tropical and warmest subtropical climates such as southern Florida, the Hawaiian Islands, coastal tropical Queensland, Singapore and the Malay Peninsula, coastal tropical Brazil and Peru, and similar frost-free settings. The plant has no frost tolerance and cannot be left outdoors during any period when overnight temperatures may approach or fall below 10 degrees Celsius. In zones 9 and cooler the species is strictly a heated glasshouse, conservatory, or indoor plant. European cultivation follows RHS hardiness rating H1b (warm temperate glasshouse required year-round) and the species is typically grown alongside tropical orchids, bromeliads, and other strictly tropical subjects in botanical garden tropical houses.

Davallia denticulata, widely known as Rabbit's Foot Fern in parts of its range, is the large and most broadly distributed species in its genus, native to a vast arc of tropical and subtropical Asia, Malesia, Melanesia, northern Australia, and the western Indian Ocean islands. Tripinnate to quadripinnate fronds 40 to 80 centimetres long with characteristically toothed (denticulate) pinnule margins arise from stout creeping rhizomes 10 to 18 millimetres in diameter clothed in pale to medium brown peltate scales. The species grows as a mid-canopy epiphyte from sea level to 1800 metres in tropical rainforest, colonising host trees and mossy acidic or coral limestone rocks. Hardy only in USDA zones 10b to 12; requires heated glasshouse or tropical conservatory culture in temperate climates. Cultivation requires coarse bark-based epiphytic substrate, bright filtered light, humidity above 55 percent, and wet-dry watering rhythm. Propagation by rhizome cuttings with success rates exceeding 85 percent. Minor folk medicinal uses across range. An important large-scale species for serious Davallia collectors.
