A member of the Gondwanan family Dicksoniaceae, it produces bipinnate-pinnatifid fronds on a slender to moderate trunk in the mossy cloud-forest understorey. The species requires cool temperatures of 12 to 22 degrees Celsius, extremely high humidity, deep shade, and constant moisture. Frost-intolerant and suited only to specialised cloud-forest glasshouses or tropical highland settings. Essentially absent from cultivation and unavailable commercially. The species' restricted range in the severely deforested Philippines places it at significant conservation risk, and formal assessment and ex-situ conservation are urgent priorities.
