Substrate: A well-drained moisture-retentive calcareous-leaning substrate: approximately 30 percent coarse pumice or perlite, 20 percent fine orchid bark, 20 percent loam-based compost, 15 percent well-rotted leaf mould, 10 percent coarse sharp sand, and 5 percent crushed limestone or oyster-shell grit. A thin surface dressing of live sphagnum moss assists humidity maintenance at the crown without saturation. The crushed limestone component is important to match the species' calcareous habitat preference and to buffer against acidification from peat-based amendments. Slightly acidic to mildly alkaline, pH 6.2 to 7.5. The species shows a clear affinity for calcareous substrates in the wild, deriving from its limestone karst habitat, and tolerates conditions slightly more alkaline than most tropical ferns. Strongly acidic media below pH 6.0 can induce chlorosis and reduced vigour over time; incorporate crushed limestone or oyster shell to buffer. Free drainage is essential, though not the ultra-sharp drainage of strictly xerophytic cheilanthoids. Use containers with generous drainage holes and a layer of coarse pumice at the base. In cultivation it performs best in positions receiving bright filtered light equivalent to 30 to 50 percent of full sun, such as an east-facing window indoors, under 50 to 60 percent shade cloth in a greenhouse, or beneath high open canopy in a tropical shade garden. Direct midday sun in tropical regions rapidly scorches the relatively thin sagittate blade and causes progressive decline, particularly on newly expanded fronds. Deep shade, conversely, produces attenuated weak-stipe fronds with reduced blade expansion and pale colouration; some bright indirect light is essential for robust growth. The species is distinguished by its boldly sagittate-hastate sterile fronds of 8 to 18 centimetres, with a prominent triangular central lobe flanked by two strongly developed outward- and downward-projecting basal lobes, producing the diagnostic digital outline that gives the plant its common name. Fronds are glossy deep green, leathery in texture, and carried on wiry dark chestnut-brown stipes considerably longer than the blade.
