Hardy to brief frost at minus 2 degrees Celsius (USDA zones 9b to 11), it requires acidic, moist substrate and filtered shade. Growth rate is moderate at 8 to 15 centimetres of trunk per year. Extensively studied as a model species for tree fern reproductive biology. Listed on CITES Appendix II. An intermediate-difficulty species that is one of the more accessible Neotropical tree ferns for cultivation.
