Pyrrosia calvata, the Bald Felt Fern, is a broad-fronded tropical member of Polypodiaceae native to lowland and lower montane rainforests across the Malay Archipelago and mainland Southeast Asia. Distinguished within the genus by its comparatively sparse stellate felt on the frond underside, it produces glossy, elliptic to ovate-lanceolate evergreen fronds from a creeping rhizome in the shaded tropical forest understorey. Hardy only in USDA zones 10b to 12, it is cultivated elsewhere as a warm greenhouse or indoor plant requiring consistent warmth above 15 degrees Celsius, humidity above 55 percent, and bright filtered light. The species pairs well with tropical orchids and other warm-growing epiphytes and is valued in specialist Pyrrosia collections for its distinctive broad-fronded habit and ecological contrast with the dry-adapted felt ferns.
