Caranday palm

It is a palm tree native to Bolivia, Paraguay, Colombia and Brazil. The bark of the palm has a smooth gray surface. The stem is cylindrical. The leaves, which are round, consist of a stem about 80 cm long and a group of about 35 leaves 35 cm long are used to weave the mats. The flowers of the palm tree are white. Ancient peoples used wax from this plant to make candles. They obtained the wax by scraping the leaves of the plant. The wood is white and is used in construction. The fruits were used to make alcoholic beverages.
